Community comes together to support breast cancer awareness – Finish the Fight Friday 10/10/2014

Thanks to so many folks around Oahu and around the state of Hawai`i, the American Cancer Society celebrations of breast cancer awareness month are reaching farther and creating more awareness than ever before.

Last week, our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk drew thousands of attendees and was the site of numerous entertainers and media personalities. Not only did we walk, but we learned, shared and had a chance to hear from our Portraits of Hope.

But the fun didn’t end last weekend. KBIG, Hawaii’s Hit Music Station, is holding “The Breast Walk Ever” in support of Making Strides. Walkers are encouraged to wear pink bras over their shirts and can enter to win prizes in the “Beautiful Bra” contest. This looks like it’s going to be a great time. You can register for, or donate to the team here.

If you get the print version of Honolulu Magazine, one of our Portraits of Hope is interviewed an a lengthy article entitled “Women Surviving Cancer“. The article takes an in depth look at the various cancers we have here in Hawai`i and connects to personal stories of survivorship and hope. Honolulu Magazine Women Surviving Cancer (PDF file).

Another community partner, Honolulu’s Eden in Love, continues their long time support of the American Cancer Society with donations and support. Eden In Love, a clothing boutique in Ward Warehouse, recently made a donation to the American Cancer Society as part of its Gifts That Give program.

Gifts That Give promotion in partnership with Divas Doing Good is the not-for-profit arm of Eden in Love that partners with various non-profit organizations to DO GOOD in our community. A portion of the sales of the TWISS headwrap were given to ACS. The promotion will run until Dec. 31, 2014.  Pictured: Nikki of TWISS and Lani Almanza, Sr. Representative, Community Engagement, ACS.

Lastly, we are truly grateful to have the help of Island Princess stores this October. They are donating a portion of sales to breast cancer research and have gone as far as to decorate their location and create this awesome video to promote sales. Check them out!
